Demo of HAM Radio at Sri Gayathri English Medium High School, Anantapur, AP

Our RnD Team packed their bags for a drive to Sri Gayathri English Medium High School at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh. Sri. Srinath, Correspondent invited the team to the school to give a demo to the students on HAM Radio and the current technology in wireless communication. We were welcomed by Sri. Srinath and his team of 20 students.

We first setup the antenna on the roof of the school in the chilled weather of 40 degrees Celsius.

Later on we setup the equipment for the demo purpose and during the process of setup the students were automatically attracted by the HAM Radio equipments.


After a brief seminar the students were given the exam board models to have an hands on experience

DDS Update.......

Good Morning Everyone!!!

Great News in the RnD Lab today. We got the DDS PCB done and soldered all the components and Yes the AD9833 mini component too(check the pics). After a lot of anticipation and nerve racking SMD soldering we got the DDS powered up and going. To our surprise, in the first shot the DDS was working and required no alteration at all. The New DDS PCB has a feature of varying the Frequency UP and DOWN. Also another added feature is the SLOW and FAST frequency variation.

ISDR on Examination Board

Greetings!!!!

We have built an ISDR on an examination board. Yes! another examination board is modified to make an ISDR and looks very nice and beautiful. The ISDR was built on the Exam board so that we can build it spaciously and easy for anyone to understand the connections and working properly. As its a very nice way to display the ISDR and give a demo. And mainly most students like to build it on the exam board.

 The ISDR board has both UHF Connector and BNC Connector giving the user the option to use any connector at freewill. The ISDR main PCB is the same as the one used in the regular ISDR that we have been publishing. The controls - Mono Jacks (Audio signals), Binding Post (Power Supply), LED and switch have been consolidated onto the board below the ISDR PCB.

If you jog your memory to last year (just 2011) we built a GR-40 Rx. on an examination board for fun, creativity, knowledge and demo purpose. Oh! for students too.

Well there is slight difference, we have added BNC and UHF connector giving the option of choosing any connector you want. We just made this for instruction purpose and here are the instructions on how to build it.

Shankara Vidyalaya School, Kolar Science Exhibition

The team recently went to Shankara Vidyalaya School, Kolar on Sunday the 18th Feb. 2012,  to setup and give a demo of Amateur Radio to students and parents from different schools. The Team setup two antennas and equipment for students to have a look and also have an hands on experience of Amateur Radio. We were very fortunate to have Mr. Govindraju, (KAS Officer, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Taxes), VU2COD to offer his valuable time to give demo of Amateur Radio to students and parents. We heartily thank Mr. Govindraju, VU2COD for his presence and time spent with us.

Low Power Transmitter on Examination Board

Greetings everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have built yet another gizmo on an examination board. Why do we like to build on the exam boards? Simple, for students. That's right, we built this Low Power Transmitter for demo purpose for students. When we showed the demo of the transmitter with the GR-40 Rx. Exam Board version, the students were really thrilled and excited which we exactly want. The Tx. works on 12V Battery with output power of less than 5mW for frequency range 7MHz to 7.2 MHz and we got distance of upto 10 feet.

GR-40 Workshop at GMRIT, Rajam, Srikakulam(Dist.), A.P.

Number of groups for kit assembly: 33 Kits
Number of days of workshop: 3 days
 
Day 1: The workshop was started with an inauguration function held in the auditorium where Prof.Basavaraj Neelgar, HOD of ECE Dept. GMRIT, Sri Ramaprabhu, G.M. Micronova Impex Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore, Dr. C.L.V.R.S.V. Prasad, Principal of GMRIT, Mr. K. Krishna Kishore,  Asst. Professor GMRIT were present. The GR-40 kits were handed over to the students and a brief explanation of the GR-40 was given for the students and faculty. The students started to assemble the kits.

Day 2: The whole day was spent on assembling the kits. Later in the evening about 15 kits were ready to test and completed.

Day 3: Sri. Ramaprabhu gave a seminar lecture on ISDR to the students and faculty. Later on the students completed the GR-40 receivers and by evening all the 33 kits were completed and was tested using the inverted V antenna. Later on in the day, certificates were handed over to the students by  Prof.Basavaraj Neelgar, HOD of ECE Dept. GMRIT, Sri Ramaprabhu, G.M. Micronova Impex Pvt. Ltd. Bangalore, Mr. K. Krishna Kishore,  Asst. Professor GMRIT.

Frequency Oscillator

Greetings...


We recently wanted a Signal generator for testing our ISDR during workshops and decided to build a Frequency Oscillator. So we modified the VFO circuit of the GR-40 Receiver and made a FIXED Frequency Oscillator or rather a Signal Generator which gives us a freq of approx.  7.012Mhz. The whole circuit was built in a tin box which we get as complimentary snack box in flights these days.

Scientist Ramaprabhu explains that HAM Radio is the basics for many wireless technologies. He also explains that, when the orbiting satellites fails, the moon can be used as a reflector or repeater for wireless communication.This technology is called Opera.


Sri Charu Hassan (National Award Winning Actor) was also present and gave a talk. He expressed his experience before coming to film industry, how he was interested in electronics and is a hobbyist. Producer Suryanarayana Raja, K.S.R. Bus Company General Manager Nagarajan, Janaki Ram Auto Mobiles Managing Director Kumaraswany Raja, Micronova Impex Pvt. Ltd. Engineer Sudhindraraja were also present and gave brief seminars.  Mr. Murali from Asiatic Institute Research and Development Center ended the event.

Asiatic Institute Research and Development Center started this workshop yesterday. Virdunagar, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli district Polytechnic students participated and assembled the kits.
